When Disclosure shared that their upcoming second album Caracal would see the duo return to a more pop-influenced sound, a reunion with “Latch” vocalist Sam Smith seemed inevitable, and sure enough, news of their second collaboration, “Omen,” caused a stir among fans. After weeks of waiting, the track is finally here – as a video, no less.
“Omen” arrives in visual form as the second piece to a four-part music video series. The first was for Caracal’s lead single, “Holding On,” which began to unfurl the tale of a woman named Mariella in Mexico City. The latest installment picks up in a nightclub, where things get steamy, before armed forces scale the venue, and the scene cuts to black, amidst the sounds of screams and sirens.
Despite the dark setting, Smith’s vocals shine in what Rolling Stone described as a “blissed-out” collaboration. Smith is just one of many collaborators featured on the album. Disclosure have already shared two others in “Holding On” (featuring Gregory Porter) and the more recent R&B-infused “Moving Mountains,” which stars Brendan Reilly. Still more collaborators on the album include Kwabs, Lion Babe, Lorde and more, in the lead-up to Caracal’sSeptember 25 release.
