A couple of weekends back, Sven Väth gathered together a posse of his favorite DJs to play the Cocoon stage at Tomorrowland. True to Väth’s style, the theme of the stage was ‘vinyl only,’ with the likes of Dana Ruh, Seth Troxler and Josh Wink stepping up to the turntables with their bulging record bags. One of the day’s prime slots went to Eric Estornel, better known as Maceo Plex and Maetrik.
This week, the DJ directed his Facebook followers towards a fan-uploaded video recording of his Tomorrowland set, adding that it was “fun getting back to basics.”
“Mixing smoothly with vinyl takes much more skill than using perfect digital technology,” Estornel wrote in response to a Facebook comment. “I personally don’t need to prove I can play vinyl like the younger DJs of today, because I played vinyl since the early ’90s. But I do like to play with it again when the setup is right. It’s more challenging which means more fun.” Check out the first hour of his vinyl set below.
