As seen in its captivating after-movie, Dekmantel is a one-of-a-kind weekender. Stretching over three days at the Amsterdamse Bos, the festival’s forward-thinking lineup was typically compelling in 2015. The Dekmantel main stage featured techno heavies like Jeff Mills, Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann; live sets from Model 500, Legowelt and Recondite; the swelling house of Tale Of Us and Dixon, and much more.
On Saturday evening, a prime slot went to electronic trailblazer Four Tet, whose DJ set led into the rattling Jeff Mills finale. Now Dekmantel has shared that Four Tet session as the latest episode in its podcast series – and it’s two hours very well spent. As well as many difficult-to-identify records, the selector even makes a surprise turn with Pryda’s “Muranyi.” (It worked.)
As ever, the Dekmantel team has given the podcast an evocative introduction. Here’s how they sum out what you’re about to hit play on: “As you would expect, it is hard to put into words what the man aims for, and achieves, across the course of two hours, but suffice it to say it will surely be the most adventurous mix you hear for a while.
“From niche Indian music to classic house, dirty STL cuts to synthetic tech and Latin tinged funk, he stitches together a wild ride full of smooth left turns and dazzling curveballs that will make you want to loosen every limb in your body and shake till you drop.” Sounds like a good time? Get down to it.
