Bassnectar has “cool news” for heavy music fans: he has recorded a “killer song” with legendary Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, and it sounds like a “fucking funnel into a hurricane.”
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Bassnectar revealed the collaboration, explaining that Morello is currently working with various electronic music producers on an album that he plans to perform live on a “super, perverted, unexplainable, bastardised guitar mutant instrument thing.”
While that sounds inexplicably enticing, especially after Morello hinted at further collaborations with Knife Party and Skrillex earlier this year, tweeting “Knife Party, Skrillex, and Bassnectar are the new metal,” it’s Bassnectar’s contribution that sounds the most promising.
“I pretty flagrantly just said (to Morello), I want to make a Rage Against The Machine song if that’s cool, and I don’t want someone to hear it and think, ‘Oh, it’s a DJ remix of Rage Against The Machine,’” Ashton told Rolling Stone. “I just want it to sound like some fucking funnel into a hurricane, and we have it, that’s the cool news. We have this fucking killer song.”
The song is apparently only an instrumental at this point, however Big Boi, Chino Moreno, Matt Schultz and Pussy Riot are all reportedly all potential options to lend vocals. A Chino/Morello collaboration sounds overdue, and we wouldn’t be mad at any of the other choices, either. Pretty “cool news.”
